Understanding your skincare

What each type of product does, and how to build a routine that works.

The right order

  1. Cleanse – remove make-up, oil and impurities.
  2. Treat – apply your serum to target your main concerns.
  3. Moisturise – seal in hydration and protect the barrier.
  4. Protect – SPF 50 every morning, all year round.

Serums

Serums are concentrated formulas that deliver active ingredients deep into the skin. Their smaller molecules reach further than a moisturiser, which mainly works on the surface – so serums are the foundation of your routine, targeting concerns such as fine lines, dehydration and pigmentation.

  • Support collagen, so skin keeps its structure and lines look softer
  • Encourage cell turnover to reveal a brighter, healthier glow
  • Boost hydration and plumpness
  • Look for proven actives, protective packaging that limits light and air, and a transparent ingredient list

Moisturisers

Moisturisers have larger molecules than serums and work mainly on the skin’s surface, sealing in hydration and reducing water loss. Think of them as the protective layer that follows your serum.

  • Repair and strengthen the skin barrier
  • Help shield against pollution and daily stress
  • Smooth the look of fine, dry lines
  • Look for humectants (such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin), nourishing butters or oils, and antioxidants (vitamins C and E)

Exfoliants

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells – physically with fine particles, or with fruit enzymes and acids. Clearing this build-up helps your serums and moisturisers absorb better.

  • Adds radiance and smooths texture
  • Refines the look of pores and helps prevent breakouts
  • We use fine, gentle particles and fruit enzymes – never harsh nut shells that can scratch the skin

Glycolic cleansers

A glycolic cleanser contains glycolic acid, an AHA derived from sugar cane. It cleanses while loosening dead skin cells, so it works as a treatment cleanser.

  • Refines pores and removes dull build-up
  • Prepares the skin to absorb serums
  • Look for a balanced pH, soothing ingredients such as aloe or panthenol, and a non-comedogenic base

SPF 50 protection

Daily sun protection is the single most important anti-ageing step. UV light drives pigmentation, loss of firmness and lines – and UVA rays even pass through windows.

  • Choose broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB
  • Apply generously to the face and neck as the last step every morning
  • Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors

Eye care

The skin around the eyes is thin and has very few oil glands, so it is especially delicate and often shows ageing first. Eye products are formulated to be gentle while targeting dark circles, crow’s feet and puffiness.

  • Look for peptides, ceramides and calming botanicals
  • Choose fragrance-free formulas
  • Apply by gently tapping with your ring finger around the eye bone

Skin mists

Mists are light, water-based sprays that give a quick boost of hydration and nutrients. Used before a serum, they keep the skin damp so the serum absorbs better.

Facial oils

Facial oils mimic the skin’s natural oils. They nourish rather than hydrate, and act as a final seal that locks in the layers beneath – improving elasticity and giving a healthy glow.

Peels

Peels use concentrated acids to dissolve the bonds between dead skin cells, giving a deeper reset than everyday exfoliation. They can target deeper lines and stubborn pigmentation, and are best carried out by a trained professional.
